B.S. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education (PK-6th) from The University of West Alabama
My first year in 3rd grade at Holy Family was also my first official year of teaching and I loved every minute of it! This is my second year of teaching. During the 2015-2016 school year I worked for Decatur City Schools for yearlong permanent substitute position in 4th grade.
My emphasis in teaching is cross-curricular teaching; I try to connect all subjects and not just teach individual subjects in isolation. In my classroom, I believe students learn best through hands-on activities and project-based learning. I do utilize centers often in my classroom and teach primarily through small groups. I am currently trained in AMSTI (Alabama Math Science Technology Initiative) which is a hands on science and math program we utilize at Holy Family. I am recently trained in Corrective Reading, a researched based intervention program, to provide additional support to students. I have also completed the Educator Level of Orton Gillingham Training.
Favorite quote: “Tell me and I forget, Show me and I remember, Involve me and I learn!”
Favorite Bible Verse: “Clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12”
